About SCFNA - Information For Professionals
The first Narcotics Anonymous meeting in Sonoma County was started in Cotati during 1968. Now there are multiple meetings each day in Sonoma County. Our Area fellowship is part of the Northern California Region which has 23 Areas facilitating over 1400 meetings per week.
Narcotics Anonymous has experienced phenomenal growth worldwide over the last 20 years. There are now some 58,000 NA meetings per week in more than 140 countries on 6 continents. Our literature has been translated into many languages.
In order to meet the influx of new members young and old, the NA fellowship has developed literature targeted to help new members understand and identify with the NA program. Please see the linked resources here that may be relevant for your clients’ needs.
Courts, correctional institutions, and treatment facilities refer many potential new members to us. Our aim is to cooperate with such agencies, without affiliating NA or endorsing other efforts. Our pamphlet Introduction to NA Meetings may help referred persons to understand our Traditions and customs. We also present Newcomer Orientation talks in facilities and institutions with intent of making our meetings familiar and attractive to potential members.
At times, our meetings have been challenged by incidents of disruptive or predatory behavior. NA World Services has provided a service pamphlet Disruptive and Violent Behavior, intending to assist local groups in responding constructively to such events.
